Tears of Joy: Marc Jacobs X Denim Tears

Gallery

Marc Jacobs celebrates his 40th anniversary with a new collab.

The Marc Jacobs Tote Bag just got a white-on-black Denim Tears paint job.

This collab meshes two of the most hyped streetwear brands on the market.

Denim Tears gives voice to African Diasporic stories through contemporary fashion and artful design.

Tears was founded in 2019 by Tremaine Emory. He is presenting his first collaboration with Marc Jacobs.

The Tears bag features its iconic cotton wreath design.

This proves to be a full circle moment for Emory, as he once worked in the stockroom of the Marc Jacobs store in New York in 2006 before later moving to London to work at Marc Jacobs’ collection store in 2010.

Happy 40th Anniversary Marc Jacobs!

Spartanburg Fashion Week

Hurricane Helen may have caused them to postpone their shows but she certainly didn’t stop them!

I attended their finale En Vogue show last Sunday and was really impressed.

I was honored to be a VIP on the front row of their second year hosting fashion week.

Bian Murphy started the show with the most gorgeous fabrics sewn into fabulous designs.

As well as these BEEautiful honeycomb looks.

True elegance.

SK Designs brought fun prints to the runway. I loved this patchwork set.

The peacock design down the side of this Va Vichi body con dress is a subtle surprise.

Local stores Dillards and H&M showed some great looks for men and women.

Suits In Style had some eye catching mens looks as well.

Eric McKinney showed a glam twist on basic sweats.

Sequined seams lined the sweat pants.

Casual chic!

It’s cold outside but the runway was HOT with the swimsuits from Helene Model Agency.

I was so looking forward to seeing Ingenious Fashion designs.

And he did not disappoint.

Cold shoulders and peplums dominate the collection.

Next to the gorgeous bag, the exaggerated jodhpurs were one of my favorite pieces from the collection.

Thank you Spartanburg Fashion Week for having me at this stunning fashion presentation.

THE ROYAL HARLEM RENAISSANCE FASHION SHOW

Gallery

I was recently invited to cover a phenomenal fashion show.

Stylist DayQuan Crawford produced his first fashion show and I was honored to come out and support him.

His talent has earned him several awards and has taken him to many runways, including New York Fashion Week.

The theme was Harlem Renaissance, an era I’ve always been enamored with.

The show was dedicated to the memory of beloved model LaToya Grier, who passed away earlier this summer.

It was an emotional evening.

DayQuan(DQ to his friends) invited her family to the show and we all mourned this Fashionable Angel.

Here are some of my favorite moments from the runway captured by photographer Craig Muzse

Kitty & Rhodes:

One of my favorite designers, JasmineTranai, brought Sass and elegance to the runway with her brand.

This Pink and Pearl piece was my favorite!

Pimp of Fashion:

I met the talented king of vintage Jaleak Gerlitzki a couple of years ago and immediately loved his eye for the unique.

These ladies looked like they time traveled to the runway.

The men followed suit with classic designs from days gone by.

We had a brief intermission allowing the audience to strut their stuff on the catwalk.

My bestie Ken Sings always slays. He was wearing lavender to honor his cousin Latoya who passed away from stomach cancer.

These guys understood the assignment.

Mark Taylor:

Roman Golden Goddess inspired looks from this designer caught my eye.

The draping fabrics contrast nicely with the metal accessories.

Anthony Terrell:

Where do I begin?

His creative use of textures made for classic, unique looks.

Satin, velvet, wool, sequins and feathers made up this fabulous collection.

Ozzy Nicole Whisper:

There was nothing quiet about Whisper’s collection.

Sequins and satin ribbons, tweed and newsboy hats, lace and beading…each look beckoned the Roaring Twenties to the present day.

DQ:

Our esteemed host closed the show with some looks he put together himself.

I can picture Ella Fitzgerald herself in this number.

The men were dapper in their jewel toned suits.

The ladies in their fur and fringe channeled the flappers of the 20’s.

Producer Dayqaun Crawford

The Harlem Renaissance was a golden age in African American culture, manifesting artistic expression in literature, music, stage performance and art.

It started in 1910 and lasted until the 1930’s.

But thanks to the creative mind of DayQuan Crawford, for one night, it was back .

Hello Dolly

Gallery

This year for my birthday, my daughters took me to Dollywood.

They inherited my love for Dolly Parton and we haven’t spent time together with just us since they started having kids of their own.

One of my favorite parts was seeing her wardrobe!

We were greeted by her Coat of Many Colors which sparked one of her most popular songs.

There was 70’s Dolly. This was the era I was introduced to the Queen of Tennessee.

Who can forget the 80’s?

Or her whimsical holiday specials?!

Her awards show outfits were stunning.

As were her album covers.

Her greatest accessory has always been a guitar.

And of course her wigs!

The highest heels you could imagine and the blingiest rhinestones we on display.

We got to see sketches come to life.

We also went into her old tour bus. Complete with a small selection of fabulous clothes.

These are two of my favorite Dolly quotes. They prove it’s not what you wear, it’s how you wear it!

FALLing In Love

Gallery

I had a vision.

The perfect Fall outfit made up of luxury pieces I’ve picked up for a fraction of their original price.

It started with the chocolate brown croc print Marc Jacobs bag I found at TJ Maxx.

I later found these Jones New York boots in the same color and print also at TJ Maxx.

They are so comfortable! I love the square toe. More room for wider feet.

And even with the chunky heal, I was able to walk around uptown Charlotte in them with no pain.

The cable knit sweater is part is a set from Amazon. I have a look planned for the skirt coming up soon!

Thankfully the weather cooperated and it was cool enough for heavy sweater.

The finishing touch is this middy skirt made up of earth tones and a flirty slit on the side.

It’s a DKNY find from Ross. Yes, ROSS!

You don’t have to spend a fortune to look good.

These pieces were heavily discounted yet perfectly on trend for the season.
